Use hemofiltration for something else.

Several treatments have been proposed for the treatment of Hypertriglyceridaemic Pancreatitis; an uncommon cause of acute pancreatitis in 1-4% of the cases which physio-pathology is unclear. Treatment with Insulin and heparin can be used to lower the hypertriglyceridaemia. Plasma triglycerides can also be lowered by plasmapheresis but is a very expensive and not very accessible treatment. Other therapies have been considered like hemofiltration plus hemoperfusion or early high volume hemofiltration. We have performed high volume hemofiltration successfully in a 45-year-old female patient with recurrent episodes of pancreatitis related to hypertriglyceridaemia.
